  • Inclusion and Diversity Partnership (IDP)

    The strategic and district IDPs set out to provide a forum for discussion and strategic leadership to evaluate and drive forward practice in educational settings to meet one overarching aim:

    Through a focus on equality and diversity, settings will develop further into places where people genuinely feel that they belong and, as a result, they will develop a strong and positive sense of self and an appreciation of their own and others' uniqueness and identity.
     
    Ultimately, this will impact on wider society as the children and young people in our schools today will grow into tomorrow’s adults. The partnership aims to shape children and develop critical thinking, skilling children up to challenge and confront prejudice, discrimination, and racism, in order for our communities to become inclusive in the broadest sense.

    This aim aligns with the Hampshire Children and Young People’s Plan 2022-25: Our shared vision is to make Hampshire an even better place where all children and young people – including those who are vulnerable or disadvantaged – have the best possible start in life and are supported by the whole community to succeed.

    The partnership groups enable settings and external partners to work collaboratively to establish open dialogue and understanding; shape and influence practice, and address concerns raised by pupils, staff, families and leaders.

    The priorities that the partnership is working towards over 2024/25 are:

    1. To develop and articulate and embed a shared county-wide vision for inclusion and diversity.
    2. To improve educational outcomes for children and young people from minority or marginalised backgrounds and groups.
    3. To strengthen the curriculum offer in schools and settings.
    4. To secure greater representation and diversity of staff and governors within schools and educational settings.

    • The IDP was formed with the understanding that this work is part of a long and sustained journey for our communities, intended to supplement what we already do, and provide a forum for us to work collaboratively on a shared vision.

      Schools and settings have signed the county commitment document to demonstrate to others, both those within their immediate communities and those further afield, that they are working to further promote a sense of belonging in their settings.

      As well as evidencing a school's individual commitment to inclusion and diversity, which can be shared with staff, governors, children and parents, the commitment document allows us, as a Local Authority, to capture the total number of schools who are engaging in the partnership. This is one measure which we can then use to promote Hampshire further afield and to support with the recruitment and retention difficulty that many schools are experiencing.
