    • Background

There are 12 places per cohort/term.  If applications exceed this number, successful candidates will be offered a place on the following term.

Higher Level Teaching Assistant status is achieved by undergoing a three-and-a-half-day preparation for assessment course delivered by an approved Provider of Preparation (e.g. Hampshire Teaching and Leadership College), followed by assessment by a Regional Provider of Assessment. The three-and-a-half-day course is coaching in preparation of material for assessment, it is not training for the HLTA role. There is an application process for places.

    • Cost

The cost of gaining HLTA status is:

      Sub £855 / SLA £360 / Full £1026

      *this includes £450 assessment fees

The full amount will be charged to schools on completion of session 1.

      • Eligibility

Teaching Assistants must have specified qualifications in literacy and numeracy and be able to write about how they have worked during the past year one-to-one, with a group and with a whole class (the latter without a teacher present). It is assumed candidates are working at the standards outlined in the attached document and have been for 1 + years.

      • Qualifications

Applicants must have qualifications in numeracy and literacy. See Required Qualifications for details. Candidates without these qualifications can take access tests. These tests are to gain access to HLTA. They do not lead to a qualification and can be used for no other purpose. See the HNAP Level 2 Access tests for full information.

      • Application Process and Dates

To apply for a place on the course, you are kindly requested to submit the following completed documentation:

        · HLTA application form

        · copies of your numeracy and literacy certificates

Please email all documents together as this forms the whole application (application form and certificates)

Important: Please DO NOT post applications. All the required documentation should be scanned and emailed to HLTA.Enquiries@hants.gov.uk by the application deadlines detailed in the table below.
