From September 2026, we will introduce a revised structure for networks and briefings relating to inclusion, SEND, and tackling the impact of economic disadvantage. This reflects the increased emphasis on inclusive practice within both the DfE White Paper and the Ofsted framework, and is designed to help schools navigate areas of overlap while maintaining a clear and strategic focus on implementation and impact.

Termly structure

First half-term

·       HIAS advisers will deliver a combined Inclusion Briefing (online, at the end of the school day), providing key local and national updates across inclusion, SEND and disadvantage.

·       These sessions are fully funded by the LA and free to attend. We strongly encourage participation from senior leaders with responsibility for inclusion, SENCos, and Pupil Premium or disadvantage leads.

Second half-term

Three focused networks will run:

·       online SEND Briefing (for SENCos and senior leaders) – updates on current SEND policy and guidance

·       Inclusion Exchange (in person) – for inclusion and pastoral leaders, with a focus on practical strategies, evidence-informed practice and collaborative problem-solving

·       Tackling the Impact of Economic Disadvantage (TIED) network (in person) – for senior leaders and Pupil Premium leads, including evidence-informed approaches, effective practice sharing and supported project work.

These opportunities are now available to book on the Learning Zone – please see the course dates listed below. We encourage schools to engage fully with this programme to strengthen strategic leadership and improve outcomes for all pupils.

Supporting secondary school leaders in developing meaningful, research-informed strategies to tackle educational disadvantage and to securely embed these strategies into day-to-day practice. 

Sessions offer the chance to share best practice and impact, with leaders learning from wider schools’ successes to address identified areas of need. Sessions are adapted and responsive, focusing on bespoke areas identified by the group. 

Sessions will provide the opportunity to: 

• access national and local updates
• engage in discussion about strategy and implementation
• explore research evidence and guidance materials and what these mean in practice
• share strategies across schools, working together to explore strengths and next steps
• experience bespoke training in response to identified needs
• network with other school leaders to enable ideas, questions, and approaches to be shared across schools. 

Learning outcomes: 

• to secure understanding of local and national updates and the latest research evidence
• to gain understanding of the practical approaches being used by school leaders to drive improved outcomes for disadvantaged pupils 
• to develop an effective pupil premium strategy based on research evidence 
• to collaborate and network with colleagues.
