    Kate has 20 years’ teaching experience in Hampshire schools and an absolute passion for geography and digital technology. Kate’s background as an Advanced Skills Teacher for geography enabled her to undertake outreach work, collaborating with local educators to develop creative and challenging geography curriculums across all key stages.

    For the past ten years Kate has worked as Senior Leader of Learning with responsibility for implementing a yearly continuing professional development (CPD) programme and embedding EdTech across a school community. Most recently Kate has been project lead for the Department for Education (DfE) Edtech Demonstrator programme, providing peer-to-peer support and expert advice on digital strategy and how to successfully embed educational technologies in the classroom.

    After six years as a member of the DfE Teacher Reference Panel she remains committed to understanding the changing educational landscape, supporting schools to develop sustainable EdTech strategies and improving the quality of geography education.

    Emma Groves

    Emma has had over 10 years experience teaching in schools in Dorset, Hampshire and the wider world. During her teaching career, she also led humanities in her school and held the role of curriculum leader. Prior to joining HIAS as the primary geography advisor, she was a member of the Hampshire primary curriculum steering groups for geography and history and has worked with the groups to support many subject leaders in the county. Emma has also has spoken at numerous geography and history networks and has led history, geography and RE workshops at a local and national level. She has also led geography training sessions for prospective teachers.

    Alongside her work for history, geography and RE in the county, Emma was awarded a scholarship for a Religious Education project by the prestigious Farmington Institute in Oxford. Her project researched teaching and learning strategies to support children in gaining an empathetic understanding of different religions, helping them become respectful local and global citizens.

    Emma is passionate about supporting children of all ages and abilities in gaining an understanding of the world around them. She continues to promote the disciplinary side of subjects and provides children with practical high-talk lessons, promoting the process of enquiry.

    She supports schools in their sustainability journey through school visits, governor training, resource creation and local and national training events. Emma also helps facilitate training for many Early Career Teachers in Hampshire, working with others to run clinics and conferences for ECTs and mentors.
