Emma Cooper

Emma joined HIAS in 2021 having previously worked in primary education in Hampshire for over 17 years.
Her main areas of expertise and responsibilities are:
- to work closely with subject leaders and teachers to provide support, advice to improve the quality of teaching and learning in primary science
- to deliver high-quality, relevant, and engaging professional development for primary science subject leaders as well as opportunities for wider staff training through INSET days and twilight sessions
- to visit schools/colleges periodically as Radiation Protection Officer (RPO), to check that the science department is storing and managing their sources compliant with the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017
- to work closely with the Consortium of Local Educational Authorities for the Provision of Science Services (CLEAPSS) as Primary CLEAPSS Ambassador ensuring all LA schools understand the role they play in keeping up to date with important safety guidance and to support them to engage with the service
- to support the Early Career Teacher (ECT) Programme as facilitator with the Ambition Institute.
Emma has a passion for supporting schools, pupils, and teachers to have access to a high-quality science education. As an adviser, she has great strengths in understanding the needs of the schools she works with, to support them to develop excellence in teaching and learning within primary science to improve pupil outcomes.
Emma maintains a strong network of primary science leaders across the county with whom she trains termly to think deeply about science and supports them to employ best evidence-based practice of science teaching in their schools.

Nikki joined the HIAS Maths team in June 2022. Her main responsibilities are:
- working closely with teachers and subject leaders to provide support, challenge and guidance to improve the quality of teaching and learning in Maths
- supporting schools in improving outcomes in pupils’ mathematics and ensure there is clear progression
- leading professional development opportunities for teachers and Maths leaders
- leading courses in response to schools, local authority and national priorities within mathematics.
Nikki is passionate about teaching and learning in Maths and supports schools who are looking to develop their mathematics curriculum to ensure the best outcomes from their pupils. She has a particular interest in developing learning journeys and task design to both support and challenge all pupils.

Vicky joined the Hampshire English team in April 2022. Her main areas of expertise and responsibility are:
- working closely with teachers and subject leaders to provide support, guidance and training to improve all aspects of teaching and learning in English
- supporting schools in raising attainment in reading and writing
- ensuring progression across the primary phase including transition between all key stages
- providing professional development for schools within all aspects of English
- writing and reading moderation in KS2
Her particular area of passion is curriculum design. This includes developing whole-school curriculums for both reading and writing, which are well-sequenced and progressive.
