    HTLC is an approved centre for the OCR suite of qualifications for support staff in schools.  Please see below for info about the two knowledge-based qualifications we offer.

    We offer flexible delivery for both qualifications.  Learners can be supported by staff from HTLC or schools can use their own in house training and development to support the learner in completing the workbook,   submitting it to HTLC for marking and accreditation once completed.  Fees charged will reflect the amount of input required from HTLC on a case by case basis. 

    For guidance, accreditation only where school supports the learner in completing the workbook;

    • Level 2 Award in Support Work in School £190,
    • Level 3 Award in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools £235

    • Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools,

      This is a qualification suitable for all support staff roles in schools, including site staff and administrators, as well as those who work directly with children and young people. It seeks to develop the knowledge and understanding that all those working in a school setting will need Learning is assessed by completion of a workbook which will be marked by qualified staff at HTLC and sent to OCR for certification.

      A stand-alone qualification in its own right, completion of the award will also afford teaching assistants exemption from five units of the Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning.

      The five units covered in the award are:

      • Child and Young Person Development,
      • Safeguarding the Welfare of Children and Young People,
      • Communication and Professional Relationships with Children, Young People and Adults,
      • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Work with Children and Young People and
      • Schools as Organisations.
    • Level 3 Award in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools

      This is a knowledge-based qualification suitable for support staff roles in schools that directly support the teaching and learning of pupils. It seeks to develop the knowledge and understanding for working in a school setting and covers areas such as safeguarding, communication, child development and understanding the school context.  It is suitable for candidates in a Level 2 role wishing to demonstrate that they are ready for progression to Level 3, and as initial training for those newly in post at this level. Learning is assessed by completion of a workbook which will be marked by qualified staff at HTLC and sent to OCR for certification.

      A stand-alone qualification in its own right, completion of the award will also afford teaching assistants exemption from units of the Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support in Teaching and Learning  

      The units covered are:

      • Communication and Professional Relationships with Children, Young People and Adults,
      • Schools as Organisations,
      • Understand Child and Young Person Development and
      • Understand how to Safeguard the Wellbeing of Children and Young People.
